I want to share a few of the takeaways my wife and I were left with after finishing the two-day American Dream seminar the first time, with Mark Matson and his team.
One of our favorite parts of the seminar was the distinction that Mark calls “the no talk rule.” In this conversation Mark coaches on the idea that most families and most people go through life being told that, “you shouldn’t talk about money.” Or “talking about or asking questions about money is inappropriate / bad.” Most of us grow up with that. For my wife and I, we both grew up without ever having many specific or direct conversations about money.
It was powerful for us as a couple to really deal with “what are the effects of that for both of us, both individually and as a team?” It was helpful to look there, to get clear on that and maybe most importantly, for us to determine, intentionally, how we want to parent around this, ourselves? By looking, discussion and being with that question, we had some interesting and powerful conversations.
As my wife and I examine what we learned from that and where/how we are elevating our future and our kid’s future around that topic, we can see a distinct difference that his coaching has created for us. This is one of the ways we are Experiencing the American Dream seminar, and creating a difference for our family.
Another way we are experiencing the American dream, was by getting clear and examining our true purpose for money. This was a powerful conversation that left us really considering why we are so busy trying to accumulate wealth. Yes, we both work full-time jobs. While we both get the basic premise for why we are working full-time and working hard, we didn’t really have a “mission statement” that would encapsulate what our true purpose for money was/is. As we experienced the American dream, and walked through these conversations in the American Dream Experience, we became clearer on that.
We can now tell you in three sentences what our true purpose for money is! That was another powerful distinction!
If you see any power in looking at these couple of things for yourself, we invite you to visit our webpage, Experiencing the American Dream, and get registered for the next event!
